GEORGIOS PAPADIMITRIOU

Georgios Papadimitriou is a classical singer (bass-baritone). Αt the age of 5 he was taking piano lessons and at 21 he started studying classical singing under Martha Arapis’ instruction. His love for opera grew during his “tenure” as a chorus member of the Greek National Opera and the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (2008-2010). In 2011, he continued his graduate vocal studies at Brooklyn College’s Conservatory of Music, while apprenticing − at the same time − to the country’s greatest lyric diction coach, Nico Castel. In 2016, Georgios completed his studies in Opera and Music Theatre (Hochschule für Musik Würzburg) under the watchful eye and ear of the legendary soprano Cheryl Studer.

During 2012-2017 Georgios collaborated with many opera companies and music scenes of the USA and France interpreting leading roles, most notably: Dr. Cajus – The Merry Wives of Windsor (Nicolai), and Dr. Grenvil – La Traviata (Verdi) with Delaware Valley Opera, Colline – La Bohème (Puccini) and Figaro – Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart) with Regina Opera, Le Chasseur – Blanche-Neige (Lange), and Gaudenzio – Il signor Bruschino (Rossini) with Opéra National du Rhin.

Since 2018 Georgios has been a regular affiliate of the Greek National Opera with participations in classical operas, world premieres and children’s operas. Among other, he has portrayed the roles of: La Voce – Idomeneo (Mozart), Il Talpa – Il Tabarro (Puccini), Nikitas – Z (Borboudakis), Der Kanzler – Die Prinzessin auf der Erbse (Toch), John the Baptist – Visions and Wonders of General Makriyannis (Marangopoulos), Capellio – I Capuleti ed i Montecchi (Bellini), Alessio – La Sonnambula (Bellini), Il Commisario imperiale – Madama Butterfly (Puccini), Doctor – The Murderess (Koumendakis), Supervisor of the emerald mines – Magic Pillows (Dousis). Last season, 2021-2022, Georgios debuted with the municipal Olympia Theatre portraying the roles of: Duke – The Cretan Girl (Samaras) και La Voce – Idomeneo (Mozart).

Georgios is a multiple merit awards and scholarships recipient, such as: Greek State Scholarships Foundation (2011-2013), Brooklyn College Merit Scholarship (2012), Wagner Stipendium (2015), etc. He has sung under the baton of eminent conductors, including: Constatin Trinks, Markellos Chryssicos, Philippe Auguin, Loukas Karytinos, Richard Barrett, Vassilis Christopoulos, Nicolas Vassiliou, George Petrou, and has portrayed roles in stage direction of, i.a.: Olivier Py, Katerina Evangelatos, Marco Arturo Marelli, Sir Nicholas Hytner, George Petrou, Hugo de Ana, Alexandros Euklidis, Carol Castel.

Besides the operatic scene, Georgios is equally successful on the concert scene, having recently collaborated with the Musical Ensembles of the city of Athens (Blood Wedding – Hadjidakis), the orchestra of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (Christmas at Megaron) and the Corfu International Festival.

A native of Kastoria, Greece, Georgios holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics from Athens University of Economics and Business, and two Master of Music degrees: one from the City University of New York, and one from the Würzburg University of Music. Currently, he is a PhD candidate in singing voice acoustics at the Music Department of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens under the guidance of pr. Anastasia Georgaki.
