Laboratory of Music Acoustics and Technology

ELECTROACOUSTIC MUSIC

Advances in technology in the mid-twentieth century led the avant-garde composers of the time to use electronic devices to process natural sounds, or to produce sounds to experiment within the framework of original music creation. The new musical genre that emerged from these experiments is now known today as "umbrella": electroacoustic music, and which encompasses many different musical trends and aesthetics.

As a continuation of this tradition, one of the objectives of the Laboratory of Music Acoustics and Technology of the Department of Music Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is to explore technical, technological and aesthetic issues raised by the first generation of composers, and to relate them to the contemporary aesthetic and technological context.
