TILEMACHOS MOUSAS

Tilemachos Moussas is an Athens based composer, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, educator. He is invested in the creation and performance of subversive music, from instant composing to avant garde. He creates, performs and produces experimental music and new opera that fuses the musicality of speech, poetry, classical music, jazz and electronic sound art.
He is a PhD candidate in the Department of Music Studies and he holds a Master of Music in Jazz guitar from the Department of Music Studies of the University of Athens and a Bachelor in Pedagogical Studies and Agriculture. He has also studied at Dante Agostini and F. Nakas Contemporary Music Schools  where he was offered a place and a scholarship to Berklee Music School/USA. His teachers in  Jazz guitar were: Mike Moreno, Lage Lund, Gilad Hekselman, Gregory Danis, Kosta Maginas, George Patsiaouras, Dimitri Velitskov.

He took flamenco guitar lessons with Alejandro Chacon and Thomas Natsis and classical guitar lessons with Giorgos Arsenis.

He is a founding member of music theater company, ODC Ensemble and has presented his music across Europe and internationally and has released multiple albums.
He also plays, Theremin, Musical Saw, Berimbao, Didgiridoo, cumbuz & lute.

He has worked with many important musicians such as:

Damo Suzuki, Savina Yannatou, Blaine Reininger, Julia Kent, Pamelia (Stickney) Kurstin, Misha Piatigorsky, Lena Norin, Michel Hatzigeorgiou, Missirli Ahmet, George Kontrafouris, Georgia Sylleou, Thanos Anestopoulos, K. Maginas, M.Voumvaki, D. Kamarotos, Nikos Giousef and has performed with artists such as Chico Freeman, Sheila Jordan, Jerome Rothenberg .

Tilemachos and his band have played as guest in concerts for bands and musicians such as:

Anouar Brahem, Nouvelle Vague, Brendan Perry (Dead Can Dance), Ozric Tentacles, Manhattan Vibes etc.

He has performed with bands such as Ble, Ypogeia Revmata, Xaxakes, LoveLab, Acetic Voice, Medieval Death.

He has composed music for theater performances, dance, short and feature films and has collaborated with organizations such as the Brooklyn Academy of Music, CCRMA of Stanford University, IRCAM Center Pompidou, Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, the National Theatre, the National Opera, the Athens Concert Hall, the Arts & Letters Center, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, the Cyprus Theater Organization, TedX University of Piraeus, etc.

He is a founding member of the theater company ODC.

He has received the international award Music Theater Now 2018 & has been awarded the 1st Prize at the B Festival of Birmingham.

He has appeared at international festivals and venues such as Copenhagen Opera Festival, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Aalborg Opera Festival, Operadagen Festival of Rotterdam, Neukollner Oper Berlin, Singapore Arts Festival, Musiktheatertage Wien, Malta Cultural Capital of Europe, W Festival, SANI Jazz Festival etc.

His albums released by Ankh Productions: Dreamtime (2022) Newborn (2011) & Swan Drip (2006) combine a unique blend of melodic jazz, classical, electronica, world music and rock.

He has also released four more albums with his compositions for theater, by ODC theatre company.
